Hello and Welcome to Mommy Friend, founded by Denize Verduzco and established in 2016. While pregnant with her oldest daughter, Emma, Denize received a prophetic word, “You are about to birth something powerful.” In the natural, it was obvious that she would be giving birth to her first child in months, but Denize knew that this word was much more profound than what the eye could behold.
As a teenager, Denize experienced a life-altering rape crime through which she became pregnant. Being only 15 years old and not knowing who to turn to, she received the detrimental opportunity for an abortion. From there, she entered different relationships that were abusive or which placed her in situations in which she would “either end up dead or in jail.”
This realization led Denize to return to her first love, Jesus. Right before this, she met the man who would soon become her husband, Miguel “Mike” Verduzco. Although their relationship was in its beginning stages, Denize recalls telling Mike, “I’m going back to church, and I’m going to do things right. You can either choose to come with me or not, but this is what I am doing.” After visiting the church once, Mike encountered God for himself and gave his life to Jesus. Shortly after, he proposed to Denize, and within three weeks, the couple became married.
Soon, they decided to start their own family. Unfortunately, Doctors met them with news that meant to derail God’s plan for their lives. Due to the abortion Denize had years prior, Doctors told her that it would be impossible for her to conceive naturally. Determined to have a family, she and Mike set their minds to do whatever they needed to do medically to have a child. More than this, however, Denize set her mind and heart to prayer.
During this time, a Prophet visiting from South Africa prayed for Denize and Mike and said that the Doctor’s reports were nonsense. He prophesied that they would have “three children in three years.” They held on to this word from God, and within a few months, Denize became pregnant with Emma Haven, and, true to the prophetic word, she was soon pregnant with their second daughter, Amalia Trinity, and finally, Raziela Lani.
Denize functions in many arenas throughout the Antelope Valley community, but when asked who she is and what she does, she proudly responds, “I am a wife and a mother.” In a culture where these roles are contemptuous, she has encountered much resistance through movements such as that of Feminism or other social movements that seek to destroy the family unit. Despite this, she remains faithful in these roles that she refers to as a “Calling.”
Through this calling, Denize has found a fervency and resolve to honor God to restore the family dynamic in various ways. For instance, having studied to become a Paralegal, Denize uses her critical thinking and expertise to help in the operations and strategic planning of different ministries, her church, Greater Works Christian Church in Lancaster, CA, and local governmental campaigns. Her newest endeavors include serving on three boards: In the Vine Dating, Antelope Valley Republican Assembly (AVRA), and Care Net.
Her most proud achievement, however, after her family is Mommy Friend. Mommy Friend started as a blog that helped fill a need that Denize saw in her community. As she stepped into the role of a stay-at-home wife and mother, she saw the lack of support for women who are also setting out to break generational strongholds for the sake of their kids. Therefore, she created a blog to help create a community for like-minded women to be encouraged in the Lord and through fellowship.
Her desire was and continues to be to provide the support she desperately needed growing up. Having endured many hardships, Denize vowed that although “Satan took her child away from her, she was going to fight tooth and nail to not lose another child under her watch.” This vow led her to volunteer at a local women’s pregnancy support center.
This effort would leave Denize broken week after week as she realized how much brokenness women experienced. While seeking a solution, she expanded Mommy Friend from an online community to in-person by opening her home to do a weekly Bible Study. Having the full awareness of her life being saved by the Word of God, her heart’s desire is for other women to experience the same redemption.
Denize carries the understanding of the power and life behind words; for that reason, she reverently wrote her first book to serve as a devotional for women called, The Spiritually Equipped Mamma. The devotional is comprised of fundamental Biblical truths that help women take a stand against the enemy for themselves and fight for their family unit.
Thinking back to that prophetic word that she received while pregnant with Emma, it is safe to say that Denize could’ve never imagined the life that Jesus had carved out for her and continues to unfold before her. Her message is one of putting God first in everything and allowing him to do with your life as he sees fit.
Once again, welcome to Mommy Friend; this is only the beginning.
